Returning a 404 from mod_rewrite rule

How does one return a 404 from a mod_rewrite rule?

I'm currently using the G flag to return 410, but I suspect that the Ask Jeeves spider doesn't correctly handle them and would like to return a plain 404, but can't seem to find out how.
