Hello+

Thank you in advance for answering this question. I'm not certain I'm in the correct forum - if not, please direct me to the correct one & I'll repost there.

I have messed up my XAMPP. I have somehow locked myself out of it (under "localhost") and I don't know what I've done! I've read about viewing an Error Log to help locate the issue - but I don't know how to access/view it.

I am very, very new to this please provide a detailed instruction.

Thank you!

It's usually in a folder called
/logs
somewhere in the server filesystem, and you usually need FTP to access that folder.

If you installed it on your local PC on the root of your drive try this path...

C:\xampp\apache\logs\error.log

OK...I went into the error log & it stated that:
c:/vhosts/chp4inDWCS4
does not exist. So I went into:
c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
in Notepad and removed:
127.0.0.1 chp4inDWCS4

but the error log still shows the same error...What do I need to do to refresh the error log? (I did close it & reopen it & the error still shows.) Do I need to look in another location for the chp4inDWCS4? (Yes, I know - I did add the chp4inDWCS4, but I don't remember all of the files that I went in to when I did it and I cannot find my notes! I am keeping better track of the notes now.)
Thank you!

Hello, again!

I did some plinking around and it looks like I solved my issues. (And for those of you who don't know...to get a refreshed error log you need to restart your computer!)
Have a great one!

You should not have to re-start the server to get an updated log. But the error log is only written-to again after a *new* error happens, and once logged, the previously-logged errors stay in the file.
