Check your server error log. It will often tell you exactly what's wrong.

You may need to add Options +FollowSymLinks ahead of your code. If so, the error log will state this.

Hi Naty,

It can still be downloaded because Webzip is not WebZIP... it is usually best to use the NC directive for 'no case' when blocking.

You might also think about combining some of the useragents to one line for efficiency. EG:

RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Web(copier¦fetch¦reaper¦s(auger¦ite\ extractor¦tripper)¦whacker¦zip) [NC,OR]

Is the same as:

RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^WebCopier [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^WebFetch [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^WebReaper [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^WebSauger [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^Website\ eXtractor [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^WebStripper [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^WebWhacker [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^WebZIP [OR]

Hope this helps.

It can still be downloaded with WebZip 6.0
and Web Downloader.

Naty,

It's important to realize that the "^" characters in each pattern are significant, and that the user-agent to be blocked must be *exactly* specified. As jd01 stated above, the pattern must correctly specify the case of each letter unless you use the [NC] flag. If your pattern is start-anchored with a "^" then only user-agents whose names *start* with exactly that string will be blocked.

You might consider posting the full webzip user-agent string from your access log; That would make identifying the problem a lot easier. Also, be aware that long lists of user-agents copied from Web sites often contain many errors with respect to uppercase/lowercase and anchoring. It is ultimately up to you to verify that each pattern is correct to match the user-agents that you wish to block.

See the references cited in our forum charter [webmasterworld.com] for more information about regular expressions patterns and mod_rewrite.
