Server crashes every time I send a newsletter

I have 5 sites hosted on a dedicated Apache Linux server leased through a major national hosting firm that sponsors a major national female race car driver.

Just to be clear this is a dedicated server. I have complete control and there are no other sites on it except mine.

Occasionally the server will crash and no sites on it are accessible.

Neither can I access simple control panel for the server.

The crashes usually occur just after I send out a newsletter to approximately 8000 people.

Tech support for the major national hosting firm say that the server should be easily able to handle the traffic generated.

But it seems to crash at the exact time that I send the newsletter.

Can I increase the bandwidth, or do I need to move to another server?

Or is this just a random occurance?

By the way, I have had the same server for about 2 years. Is it time to upgrade to a new server?

Ask your host to help you go through the error log and find some indication of the cause of the crash. There's simply not enough information available to even guess at a useful response here.

If they won't help, then hire someone to troubleshoot the problem, or change to a host that offers support.

The error logs likely hold the answer...

Sending a newsletter via sendmail continuously may clog down your server, but I think they are queued anyway, so that shouldn't have caused the problem.

Have you tried sending via an external SMTP ?
