I spent all last night configuring my .htaccess file, (on my local webserver/wordpress setup) and when I went to working on it today, every setting that i'd configured had reverted back to the default wordpress settings. What gives? I felt great yesterday because every configuration I setup worked the way it should have. How can I set-it and forget-in without worrying about wordpress resetting my hard work? Any help would be gladly appreciated.

Thanks

More likely something your host is doing. The server and WP themselves do not "auto-restore" .htaccess files.

Thanks Jim M. Are there any settings you'd recommend for a .htaccess wordpress site that is concerned about seo, security, and quick loading php pages? Maybe I can save myself some time by asking this question. (please, any examples would help).

Thanks

You can speed up the box-stock WordPress (and Joomla) mod_rewrite code by using the techniques described in this recent thread [webmasterworld.com].
