I'll make a long story short. I really know very little about this but like to fool around with it (sometimes). So I had Apache installed (version 2.0.63). I had a dBase web application that was working just fine. My computer crashed, Apache stopped working and I didn't bother to do anything about it for a few months. Then I decided to do something again and downloaded a newer version (2.2.11). I tried to install it and it told me another version is installed and I must delete it. Went to Control Panel and deleted it. Still the same. Went to edit the registry and deleted everything that looks like Apache. Still the same problem. Took out an old backup, tried to install version 2.0.63. It installed but tells me that no services are available. So I cannot get either to work.
Is there somebody who are prepared to give me some help with this. I run Windows XP home edition.
Thanks a lot.
Use the add/remove programs to uninstall Apache. Once completed you can remove the "conf" and "logs" directories under the old Apache install if you no longer require them. Reboot the machine. Now double check that the Apache service is no longer available (under Windows Services). If it is, unregister the service. You may also need to scrub your registry to get rid of any lingering Apache keys but the uninstall should have done this for you.
You should be able to install a new version of Apache now.
