I'm running apache, mysql and php (not the bundled version) and has been running fine for about 1 year. i'm on osx 10.4.11 (tiger)
as far as i can remember i did not nothing to cause apache to stop responding. the only things that could have contributed were an unclean shutdown or possibly the manual removal of norton after i realised how bad it is. apache was running fine with norton installed.
I'm stumped because usually i can get an idea of whats happened by going through any changes i made etc but this time i cant find where to start as i have not changed anything.
mysql is running and apache is running but iu cannot connect to localhost. in the split second before the error page loads i'm sure i caught a quick glance of the apache success page, so maybe network or firewall? in the sharing panel i have ftp sharing checked and in firewall settings too.
personal web sharing is not checked (i dont remember needing this before and its only needed for the bundled apache right?) anyway if i check it unchecks itself when rebooted
any ideas on where to start? oh the other thing i have done is osx update to 10.4.11 but should not be a propblem right?
last confirmed date of server working proiperly was oct 12 so have inclueded log from roughly then till now.
I would be so much appreciative to anybody who can help me out with this, i'm stressing so badly because i'm on a deadline for a site and cant even use my server to do it and will have to end up doing it directly on the net server with notepad if i cant get this faixed.

theres about 150 subdirectories of sites in there too but localhost/anything isnt connecting either
I downloaded a utility to completely remove all norton files in case it was interfering somehow since my previous incomplete uninstall but still no joy.
Only thing i can think of is i used the laptop while on vacation on an adsl line (i usually just use wireless) to get the internet and i vagualy remember having trouble connecting to the net at first, is it possible a network setting has been messed up while i was auuto configuring it to use the adsl cable?
its like its working but it just cant connect to the working apache server (no error msg or anything) just says unable to connect whenver trying to access anything on localhost or 127.0.0.1

Seems by the logs it was actually running ok until sunday because thats the last error log and its been started and stopped numerous times since then and no log entry showing since that date and if thats the case it was while i was using dreamweaver, i defined the remote/ local etc in dreamweaver and aftyer that i think the server had problems. can dreamweaver somehow mess with the settings when defining the sites network info?
Ok, this si really strange - its now working again. I had already rebooted sveral times to no avail and restarted gracefully several times but when i tried to stop it via the system prefernces it took about 8 attempts to finally get ti stopped, now ive restarted and it seems fine again. any ideas? doesnt a reboot perform the same as a stop and restart anyway?
i assume that message happened during a stop/start process.
you might try it and see if that message appears in the log again.
the strange part was that i rebooted the comp numerous times to try and reset the server to no avail and also several graceful restarts. When i tried stopping it from control panel it refused to shut down and finally stopped after about 7 attempts and after restart it was fine.
doesn't a reboot stop and start the server in the same manner as stopping and restarting from control panel?
