[edit reason] Please use example.com only. [/edit]
I'd like to ask that you read our Terms of Service, and the Apache Forum Charter to get oriented here -- We do things a bit differently than most other forums.
As for your problem: The correct syntax for a URL is http://mash.example.com -- Note the forward slashes.
That might be causing a problem, but it is more likely that the real problem is in your DNS setup. Please describe your DNS configuration, and how subdomains are defined in your pubilcly-accessible DNS Zone file, and how they are defined in your server <VirtualHost> configuration. Also, are there sites at www.example.com and example.com as well as at blog.example.com and mash.example.com? If so, how are these subdomains configured?
Jim
