Hi,all. I'm doing a school project, two websites.
one is ABC.Deptdomain.edu(intranet), the other is BCD.Deptdomain.edu(internet)
therefore, how to setup these two in ONE Apache server?
THanks!

I'll start the conversation whilst everyone else is waking up or going to church. (I'm a heathen. :p)

Tell us something about the server: Is it a "hosted server" (at a web hosting service) or is it a stand alone server physically located at the school building?

If it's hosted, does the server come with a "control panel": cPanel, Plesk, etc.?

While you're waiting for better minds than mine to arrive, have you visited and searched the Apache.org website?

Take a look here [httpd.apache.org] for example. Be mindful of the "version" of http server. Here it's 1.3.

Here's another relevant page from Apache.org:

[httpd.apache.org...]

You might want to tell us a bit about the project. For example, is this project actually a "homework assignment" (you must answer a written assignment about "how to create subdomains") OR do you actually have access and permissions on the server? I'm assuming you have actual server login permissions. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks!
the project title is "web page and secure database design". and I'm asked to use WAMP server2.0 comes with apache2.2.8 to handle the project.

originally there's one Intranet website call "ABC.ece.myschooldomain.edu", it uses "xitami" server, asp and sql server, and my scope is to migrate everything to the new WAMP.
besides that I'm also asked to create a new Internet website call "BCD.ece.domain.edu".
Both websites will be running using one Apache server, that's what my project is, and I've full authority to access the server.
I'm planing to use virtual host to manage both sites. and I want to know whether it's the best solution for my project.

Not sure about "the best solution" but one value of virtual hosting is they tend to provide software that makes it easier for noobs to set up and administer their own websites - without a lot of calls to the NOC. ;)

So, my money would be on the answer being "yes" - go with virtual hosting that provides a "control panel" like cPanel with Fantastico - that together make setting up things like blogs or forums a bit easier for newcomers.
