Newbie here- having troubles parsing SSI

Includes are not displaying

I'm not sure why, but my SSI are not displaying when I bring the page up.

This has already been added to the config file:
AddType text/html .shtml
AddOutputFilter INCLUDES .shtml

I don't know if I did this right, but my Directory and DocRoot are set to: C:/Apache2_2/htdocs

and in the htdocs directory is where I placed my folders with the .shtml files.
