I got interested in trying to enable file compression from Apache. I included a DEFLATE command in .htaccess in my root directory. It's good for text/html, text/css, application/javascript, and some other things. Css are reduced, and show - gzip. That's good. And .js files show - gzip - which is good. But they also show - chunking.

Apparently it's something that is automatic and can't be switched off. But for some reason, the .js loads very slowly, almost slower than a .jpg graphic of the same size. I have to assume it has something to do with - chunking.

There must be a solution. I also read that this kicks in at 50K for files. So I reduced the .js to 46K. Still - chunked. Maybe the real threshold is lower? I don't know. Maybe chunking has nothing to do with it. But of all the graphics, etc., that darned .js is actually holding things up. And it's just text file which should compress to practically nothing, if all was going well.
