Hi everybody,

I have a little issue here I can't seem to get around.

I run a WAMP environment and code in PHP5. Everytime I try and preview a site using the url site.localhost I have to be connected to the internet or else I get nothing.

Anybody know how I can get around this? Is it my firewall? Is it my Apache Server?

I'm getting tired of always being connected, I connect through a cellphone as connectivity here is a bit of problem...

Thanks!

Do you have a network card in your computer, and is it enabled?

I have:

1394 Net Adapter -> Disabled
Wireless Network Connection -> Disabled
Local Area Connection 1 -> Network Cable Unplugged -> This is Broadcom
Local Area Connection 2 -> Network Cable Unplugged -> Bluetooth, use this for connection to cellphone.

Working on a HP nx 7300

That looks fine, if you have at least one enabled local area connection (with tcp/ip enabled) then localhost should work. Are you running a third party firewall software, like ZoneAlarm or Comodo? Also check that the DNS Client service in the Services administration console is enabled, and running (even when not connected to any network).

I am using Comodo. I've tried a few things in there, like adding 127.0.0.1 to my trusted zones without any luck.

DNS client properties are set to automatic on startup so that seems ok.

I fixed this in the past with Comodo but that fix doesn't seem to work anymore...

I'm out of ideas, any other thoughts?

Thanks for all your help!

[edit]localhost is 127.0.0.1 and not 127.0.0.0[/edit]

Got it!

See - [webmasterworld.com...]

Turn off autodial:
Control Panel>Network & Internet Connections>Internet Options>Conntections Tab>"Never Dial a Connection"

How simple was that!

Thanks for your hlp, make me dig deep and think for myself, for once...but still, copy paste is the best invention ever!

Cheers!
