Upgrading to Apache 2

I am on a VPS, so the upgrade will be handled by my host. I use stuff like GD, mod_rewrite phpSUEXEC, etc.
Will any of this stuff be outdated and not work / work differently?

Approximately, how much downtime is involved with upgrading from Apache 1.3.39 (Unix)
Is there any reason I should STAY with my current version of Apache?

(I realize I could just as easily ask my host, but I try to bother them as little as possible to avoid souring the good relationship I have with them.)

Suggestion: Put a copy of your site on a second/separate Apache 2 server and test it there before committing to this "upgrade."

The upgrade might take only 30 minutes, and yet some obscure incompatibility might keep your site from working for several weeks while you work with your host to debug the problem and post frantically here -- and I guarantee you won't enjoy that time at all...

OK, now, with that picture in mind, re-consider whether you can afford to take my suggestion above... Or whether you can afford NOT to take it. :)

As for the rest, you need to ask your host; Only they know what procedures they will use and how long those procedures usually take. Only they know what versions of what have been tested with their Apache 2 configuration.

Thanks for your response. :)

So there is no (immediate) dire need to really upgrade? No major security patches, etc.? I read the release notes, but I don't really know enough about Apache to make sense of it.
