In 2007, I became an Apache Administrator. For real websites, too! I want to learn all I can about my new LAMP.

I have a bookstore gift certificate and a yen for a good Apache manual. Suggestions?

I can't really offer any suggestions on books, however, the Apache documentation is very good: [httpd.apache.org...] That should at least get you well on your way.

The Apache documentation is WAY over my head because of lack of full, spelled out examples, and I consider mod_rewrite to be an essential for anyone responsible for a website, even a small one.

I really DO need to be able to read while away from the computer, and to underline things in books (force of habit), so I bought a book on mod_rewrite by someone named Rich Bowen (who's with the Apache group). Best thing I ever did, the section with all the Regular Expressions in chart form and then each explained thoroughly, with fully written out examples, is indispensable. He also stresses when it's important *not* to use mod_rewrite, but other modules instead. His writing style is clear - even I can understand it, and full examples abound.

I have no idea if he's written a complete book on Apache, but if I needed one I'd buy any book by him, not only because he knows his stuff, but for the clarity of how he explains things in understandable language. And the other books I have from his publisher on other (tech related) topics are also heads above others I've read in ease of understanding. Once shopping Amazon for any book, there are suggestions for similar ones, so it's easy to find the specific needed, and the reviews are huge help (even if buying the stuff someplace else).
