Has anyone attempted an install of this module on a server with Plesk installed? My admin gave it a go and it's kicking hundreds of errors, thought I'd see if anyone had and tips or hints on the install or possibly resources he could look at.

One more try, we'd really like to get mod_gzip working and it's crashing on compile.

Which version of Apache? 2.x? If so, why not go with mod_deflate?

Thanks coopster, I'm not sure how to answer as I am not an admin and looking around for solutions for him. :-)

Server version: Apache/2.0.52

The original reason is that we want to serve up pages using mod_gzip to load them faster, as most browsers recognize that content-type these days. Is that an erroneous idea? Would mod_deflate be a better choice?

mod_gzip is an Apache 1.x module. That is why it is probably crashing.

mod_deflate is part of Apache 2.x although it has to be turned on in the config file.

The two do the same functions and have about the same results.

Thank you, I'll pass this on! My admin partner is very good - but this is not an area he's messed with much. Off to break our server . . . . :-)
