Hi Guys,

I am building a home apache server 2.2.6, Win XP, php5 mySQl 5. It's very slow. I suspect I am low in memory, only 512MB. I have 1GB coming from Ebay. Do you think performance will improve greatly once the extra memory is in?

If you're seeing a lot of virtual memory swapping now, then the extra memory should improve thing greatly.

Look at the Performance tab in Task Manager and compare the Peak commit charge to the physical memory. If the commit charge is greater than the physical memory, then you're going to get swapping. If it's more than 1.25:1, then you're going to get a lot of swapping.

I think that's half my problem, not enough RAM. Can't wait for the new RAM to arrive.

I am also experiencing run away EXPLORER.EXE. From time to time, it goes crazy and use up 100% CPU and everything grinds to a halt. After a while, it drops back to 0% CPU. Weird.
