I did a lookup on this in the forum, with no results.

I have what looks like a perl bot trying to hack into my sites.

I'm running a 1.? version of Apache on a Red Hat LAMP system.

I've been told that all I have to do is change something called a "User-Agent" in my .htaccess file - I'm unable to locate that file on my box.

Can anyone help me figure this out. I'm getting hit daily with this guy.

Thanks Jim, I'll punch that in and see how it goes.

PS. it didn't like the Indy\ Library, so I had to do "Indy Library", is that still going to work?

"Indy" will suffice.

Indy is a library (set of component) developed for Borland Delphi and .NET, blocking everything which uses this library is theoretically not correct, although I must admit that common browsers does not use that (either because programmed in C, either because they don't use it in such a manner that it includes 'Indy Library' in the UserAgent header). Not that you need to change something, I'm just mentioning this for completeness, and that I feel pity for Indy ;-)

Hey George,
Webmasters whom monitor their traffic are hardly "common" ;)

Just imagine the sheer numbers of websites and webmasters who do not take the time to survey their logs or the many forms of crawlers coming through their doors.

Hell! some webmasters aren't even aware if they have visitor logs or not ;)
I've seen forums in which the webmasters are so diverse in their knowledge of PR, however use that stats software's provided in a standard format by their hosts.

The few of us (a drop-in-the-bucket) that implore denials for lack of protocol and numerous other reasons, I would imagine, is hardly noticeable by these crawlers (legitimate or otherwise).
