My title says it all. Why do people still use 1.3? Is 1.3 faster?

Is there a reason I should be using 1.3 over 2.x?

Mainly because 1.3 is stable, well-known, and has many 3rd-party modules -- something that's problematic with Apache 2.x.

If you know what add-on modules you need today, and which ones you may need for the next several years, and all are available for Apache 2.0, then 2.0 is a reasonable choice. But 2.2 remains "leading edge" and I understand that even PHP support is currently spotty.

Many hosting companies have stuck with Apache 1.3 because it is 'safer' to do so for the reasons above, especially for shared servers. But many of them do offer Apache 2.0 dedicated servers or VPSes.

And don't forget 2.3, the Apache site itself is running on their dev server ;)

Check the headers ...
[httpd.apache.org...]

Server: Apache/2.3.0-dev (Unix)
