Is there any way to know if apache throws any errors (like timeout) to users at peak time?

Yes, check the server error log -- Ask you host how to find it if it is not obvious.

Obviously, client-side timeouts won't be logged on the server, but you should see signs that the server is having problems, like running out of available threads or memory. And you can always visit your site yourself to see if it is still quick or gets balky under peak-traffic loads.

There are also specialized online services that regularly check the availability of your site.
