Mod rewrite and Subdomains and trailling parameters

convert john.mysite.com/friends to mysite.com/index.php?user=john&page=fri

Hi everybody,
I used to thougth i am confortable with mod-rewrite until subdomains get into.

Here is the problem:

i want to convert [john.mysite.com...]
to [mysite.com...]

users are dynamicaly created (john is interchangeable with any string)

I think it is not that hard.
