URL Redirect

Our marketing department put the following url into a print advertisment

www.#*$!#*$!xx.com/freeissue

Am I wrong to say we are SOL trying to redirect it because apache doesn't know if the url is a file or directory.

I figured it out. I didn't upload .htaccess as ASCII.
