Today the following appeared in my Apache error log

file .\main\buff.c, line 114, assertion "0" failed

Subsequent entries are

[error] [client #*$!.#*$!.#*$!.#*$!] Invalid URI in request GET /mydir/ HTTP/1.0

and page requests to php files are failing with 400 Bad requests. HTML and graphic files are served ok though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you did not change anything recently, then either someone has hacked your site or your host has changed something... Best to get in touch with them NOW.

Hi, I host the site myself, it's an intranet server.

Though I can't find much evidence to support the theory, I suspect that the Apache kernel became corrupted. The solution was to install Apache 2.0 and move the affected sites.
