There are certain characters/symbols that are used in mod_rewrite and htaccess that I don't understand. I'm usually able to get by without knowing what they mean but I think it would be much easier to understand them. Can anyone tell me where I might find a website that explains the characters that are used? Some of the ones I often see are: / \ * $ ^! %

I've tried finding a tutorial on my own and I have found some but they don't explain the characters.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, lil87!

These symbols are part of what is called Regular Expressions. Searching these terms alone in Google will yield some good results. Here's one from this forum's charter: Using Regular Expressions [etext.lib.virginia.edu].

Don't forget to check out the Library [webmasterworld.com], too :)

Good luck!
