I have a server!
I want to know where I can find or see ( on my pc ) my Name servers and primary and secomdary Name servers and IP adresses?
Is it possible to know? And Where?
Can someone tell me some tutorial or manual about this theme?
Or I need to install some soft or programms?

WINDOWS NT/2000/XP:

Start->Run->CMD->ipconfig /all

MAC:

Apple Menu->About This Mac->More Info...->Network-><whatever your network card is>

Look for DNS or nameserver.

Oh, duh. I'll bet you are looking for your SOA servers. Sorry about that.

You need a Whois tool.

There is a site you can use for this: [networksolutions.com ]. I have found it to be pretty effective, even across multiple registrars.

The only issue is that there are dozens of different registrars out there, and you may not get completely authoritative information unless you use their Whois.

There is a command line Whois for Windows, and the Mac allows both command line and GUI tool (Network Utility).

EEK! You want to edit your own DNS zone file?

If you don't know EXACTLY what you are doing, then don't go there!

Most hosting companies are very good at editing their zone files. Ask them to do it for you. Just say you want a mailserver set up. They will handle all the MX records and whatnot.

You're not going to get everything you need here.

This is a good forum, but zone file editing is a big topic, and very dangerous. All kinds of strange bugs and undesirable consequences can come from doing it wrong.

I have done it, and made bad mistakes, so I don't do my own zone files any more. You do not want my advice here.
