301 redirect dissappered

what can cause changes to .htaccess

I had a 301 redirect disappear out of my htaccess..looks like it must have happened within the last month.

Other than someone hacking in a removing them .. what else could have happened?

I noticed we were removed completely out of MSN last week and have been searching for the problem when I noticed the 301 missing..

Hackers, server admins, co-workers, a slip on the delete key, scripts with privileges to write .htaccess like cPanel or a bad-bots script... A pretty long list, actually.
