Help with htaccess and rewriterule

Hi guys

I have not experience with rewriterules and even I've tried everything, I cannot make it to work.

I need the following. If I have URLs like these:

www.mysyte.com/john
www.mysyte.com/michael
...

I want them to be redirected to
www.mysyte.com/inventory/showuser.php?user=john
www.mysyte.com/inventory/showuser.php?user=michael
...
