Engine On / Off Problem re: MS Frontpage

I have a site hosted on an apache server. My problem is when I have the rewrite engine on, I cannot connect to the site via MS Frontpage 2002. Has anyone else had this problem? and may I borrow your solution... It was working fine and my hotlink deny worked fine also. Then it just started doing the problem I've stated above. Any help for this newbie would be appreciated. Thank you in advance, and Happy Halloween to you and yours.
