If I have a site a lot of files (e.g. 10.000 images) is it advisable to divide the images in sub-folders to ease access?

I mean, will I have a degraded performance for having apache scan the directory to retrieve the 9.999th image?

Hi,

Huge directories are usually a bad thing for various reasons. Try to stay well below 1,000 entries (files, sub-dirs) per directory.

There was another thread on this recently.
