mod rewrite {but backwards}

After spending circa 5 days on trying to learn mod rewrite/with php/regex, PLUS loads of online tuts / charters / tutorials - my brain is fried :-/

(IMO - Someone really needs to rewrite the apache mod rewrite docs into plain English! - There *has* to be an online book opportunity there!)

I have mod rewrite working OK with retrieving $_POST vars(from hidden form fields), but can I have a *REAL WORLD* example of a $_GET example please? I am truly confused.

(1) I don't want to use atoms (*)
(2) My .htaccess already works fine with $_POST
