Hey guys:)
I need some help please.

I wanted to use a 301 redirect to help protect my affiliate links. I found one but not sure how do it exactly. It says to create a fake page. Well...It says to name it. So it shows an example as:

example.htm

for the page. So my question is:

Q.1. Can i use:

.html

instead of the other? ->Can i do it like this: example.html
for the page name. I ask because my whole site uses .html for all it's pages.

Q.1. Is it ok to use .html in the file name?

Will it still work correctly?

Thank you for your help guys:)

Without reading the whole article ourselves, it's impossible for us to give you an answer.

My advice would be to modify whatever code is given in that article to recognize ".html" instead of ".htm", and then test it thoroughly.

The documents cited in our forum charter [webmasterworld.com] and the tutorials in the Apache forum section of the WebmasterWorld library [webmasterworld.com] may come in handy...

Thanks for answering jdMorgan:)

Would you know, if it is a 301 redirect and the file names it states to create are created as:

.htm

(an example is download.htm as a fake page.)

Q.1. Could i use it as .htm just like is says to do if *my entire site* uses .html?

->Will it still work the same way even though my site
files are for example: index.html etc... all mine are:

.html

->The redirect is designed like this:

Affiliate cloaking with .htaccess:

It's a 301 redirect.

It said to do it like this:

redirect 301 /download.htm http://.com/download.htm/?xx

->name of site goes after //

*I wanted to use it like this:

redirect 301 /download.html http://www..com/download.html/?xx

->name of site goes in between the www and .com
(xx is the affiliate info. I did'nt fill it in yet.)

Q.2.Can i use the second version? or will it not work?

I only added .html and http://www.

---------------------
*The 1st version only uses: http://

Well...Thank you for your help jdMorgan:)
I do hope you answer:)

Thanks again. I appreciate your help very much.

Frenzy;
Yes, you can name your pages with both .htm and .html extensions, or redirect a previous .htm page to land on a .html page instead. The only exception to that is for FrontPage Extensions websites, which mostly use the .htm extension only. I run into this often when bringing FrontPage websites into the 20th Century and making them standards compliant.

Hey guys:) Thanks for all the help.
I appreciate it.

Q.1. Well, would anyone know of a good article on cloaking/protecting affiliate links?
->One that you guys have used or are using is prefered.

Q.2. Do any of you participate in affiliate programs and if so how do you guys cloak/protect your affiliate links?

Well, thanks guys for your help:) I really appreciate all your guys
help. Also, i really could use your assistance. I don't want to have
people steal my hard earned commisions, or get penalized by search engines for participation in the affiliate programs.
That's why i want to cloak/protect my affiliate links.
I'd really appreciate your guys help:)

Well...Thanks again fellas for all your great help:)
