Additional domains service

I think im being ripped off

Please excuse me if this has been asked before, I am new to these forums. My host charges $10 for an additional domain (virtual host so I can have 2 web sites on the same hosting account), even if I already own it. So basically I am paying a guy $10 to add a line to the httpd.conf file in apache to add a virtual host, correct me if I am wrong but I think they are ripping me off. I want to know what my options are to create another web site because I am not going to buy another hosting plan, I only use 1% of my storage and under 50% of my transfer monthly.

As I see it my options are:
1) Create a php file to run shell commands through exec() and edit the httpd.conf file myself and possibly get banned from my host
2) Cancel my host and loose a bunch of money, then waste more money getting a new host that does not rip off their customers.
3) Whine and complain untill they change it for free
4) Stop being a cheap *** and pay the 10 bucks :-)

Did I miss any options? What would you guys do?

That seems a bit much to me.

If you are thinking you may be adding several new domains in the near future look at getting a reseller account. With that you manage as many domains as you want paying extra only when you need an additional dedicated IP. Of course bandwith is shared between all domains on the account.

No good. My host's reseller account gives me $2 / month off registering new accounts, then I can sell the hosting to clients for as much as I want. Hmmm, option one is so tempting but I know I shouldn't, I will most likely try 3 then 4 :-)

I need mySql and PHP no matter what, I also need it to be under 10 bucks per month, I know there is lists of hosts and what they offer but id like to see what you recommend. I'm looking for more than features, I need better customer service, my current host has PHP 4.2... for gods sake upgrade! I also want my host to not suspend me for using a little cpu usage.

The rules will not permit link dropping. Notice there is a link to a host at the bottom of the page here at webmaster world. There are lots of hosts that would fit what you need. You can even find hosts that let you host 100 domains for around $12/month.
