Can't "start" Apache - The Operation Failed

Norton Internet Security Causing the Problem

Started Apache, Norton threw up some warnings & ultimately I did something so Apache just says "The Requested Operation Has Failed!" when I try to start Apache.

Next step was to uninstall Norton & select the option to leave settings in place for when it is re-installed.

Seems like there is something in those settings that is still blocking Apache from starting.

Anyone know what might need to be adjusted or a file to delete to stop blocking of Apache or just get all those Norton files off the computer if that's what it takes?

Check apache logs for the error and post the error here.

To quicky check for errors goto
Start, Programs, and look for Apache http server and then goto configure apache server , test configuration.

When you run test config it displays you the error.

It looks like the Norton is blocking access to the port, as this error comes up when trying to start Apache

only one usage of each socket address <protocal/network address/port> is normally permitted. :make_sock could not bind to address 127.9.0.:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down

Unable to open logs

When Start --> Programs --> Apache http server -->Configure Apache is selected the DOS box pops up for a split second, shows nothing and closes right away.

it seems there is another server running at port 80.

Do you have any other server installed that is using port 80?

No Apache did work until I did something with Norton, then uninstalled Norton but it left some files in place for when it was reinstalled & this is probably what is preventing Apache from running.
