I have a simple problem (but the solution eludes me):

Apache 1.3 and 2 do not serve any object tags, including embedded external files, on my computer's browser anymore. Apache simply strips the tags off the HTML and serves the rest of the document.

The problem is not exclusive: the page will display fine when run through a browser from a different computer -- it seems to be a problem with the installation on my computer.

I have re-installed apache, browsers, plugins, used the default http.conf file, and the problem persists. I suspect it is to do with my registry settings, though all my frobbing hasn't resulted in any joy. Has anyone had a similar problem and managed to solve it?

many thanks and regards to the web community

problem solved -- may some poor sod come across this solution:

The issue was caused by Norton Internet Security Professional (hate the damn thing -- company policy though). Turn it off. Better yet, remove, delete and empty the recycle bin.
