Header check shows both Apache and FrontPage

Not a FrontPage site... what does this mean?

I ran a header check on a site I'm just beginning to optimize. The info that returns for the Server shows that it's both Apache (great) and (I think) FrontPage (?):

Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) FrontPage/5.0.2.2510 mod_ssl/2.8.12 OpenSSL/0.9.6g

What does this mean? The site isn't FrontPage... though I suppose it's possible that an earlier version of the site may have been done in FrontPage and the domain was just left on this server. I'm confused also because FrontPage is Microsoft and Apache is not.

Also, fairly soon, there's going to be a domain name change involved in the project, and I may be using .htaccess. Site search on WebmasterWorld brought up the following:

Microsoft .htaccess is not compatible with the one used on Apache.

In general, I don't like to get near anything having to do with FrontPage. It brings back bad memories. Should I have the hosting company move the site to another server, and what should I look out for or ask about, given this server information, which is all I have?

I think it just means their running apache with frontpage extensions... I could be wrong.

What does that do? Anything that will affect non-FrontPage .htaccess, etc?

FrontPage server extensions are necessary for certain components (hit counters, site summary reports, forms) of a FrontPage website to function properly. It shouldn't affect you at all.

We are able to install or uninstall the FP extensions for our site on the control panel.

The server is just announcing that it can to frontpage websites. There are extensions for apache that allow this, it's not uncommon. (Anything you can do, we can do better!)

Also, you could run apache on windoze if you wanted to, but I don't think that's what you've got here.

As previously stated, FrontPage extensions are installed on the server, so you could enjoy full FP functionality if you choose.

If you don't use them, they will not affect you. It's important to note that if you create pages that USE FP extensions (to process a form for example), this will conflict with mod_rewrite and mod_rewrite will perform unpredictably, if at all.

If you don't use FP, having the extensions installed will be completely transparent to you. There's no reason to change hosts.
