Help!
I have installed apache and am trying very hard to get the config file set up.
one of my instruction says this:
The first thing you might want to do is change the document root directory which is by default set to C:/Apache2/htdocs, in my configuration I have changed it to c:/webroot. In fact in my version it said document root @@apache@@ as with all the bits that can be modified.

So i am working on the theory that i am meant to create a folder called webroot on the c drive, then if i drop pages in this and point a browser at [localhost...] it should then render the pages in this folder.

Can someone tell me if i am going along the right lines. If i do this i still see the default apache page with the feather on it.
I am going mad with this thing so below I will paste the full config file in the hope someone can tell me where i am going wrong.

See this recent thread [webmasterworld.com] -- There's a procedure posted in there about halfway down. That and the disccusion that follows may help you.

Change the serverroot to the apache root directory (where the apache2.exe resides), if I understand you well it is the c:\apache2 directory in your case;
Replace all the @@variable@@ like strings with a real pathname, like the @@APACHEICONS@@ should be replaced with c:\apache2\icons. If you don't know what to use for a variable like this, just comment out the whole part, most of them you don't use.

Additonaly you can disable most of the modules (by commenting out the LoadModule directives); modules like the asis, imap, isapi, status, user_dir, proxy_*, dav_*, headers, ssl you need to have enabled only if you really need it, it is just a waste of the resources to enable all without using them.

Don't forget that whenever you change the main config file (or any of the included config files) of the apache, then you need to restart the apache. If you installed it as a service then through the services console, or by issuing the apache2.exe -k restart -n apache2 command from the apache directory, or if you are running it in a console window, then by issing the apache2.exe -k restart command or pressing ctrl+c in the apache window and restarting it.
