I want to configure apache to handle "fake" userdir requests. For example, I have a certain site in a project folder called "example.com". It's located in the root folder. What should I do to make it so that localhost/~example.com will bring up the subfolder as root?

The reason I want to do this is so certain paths will still work. For example, certain dynamically created pages use the root as reference for images, CSS, etc. If I edit the httpd.conf to use the subdirectory as root, then the paths work. But there must be a way of getting them to work anyway, right?
Or, is there a way I could set up some form of virtual "hosting" for my subfolders?
