WHM - subdomains -and more problems!

This is driving me mad!

If I use WHM to set up a sub domain, such as xyz.example.co.uk, the new domain is created as a seperate entity below the home/directory

/home
---/digi
---/xyz
.
.
.

This is a domain in its own right, with seperate cgi-bin/public_html etc, (even though the URL is as xyz.example.co.uk)

IN THEORY, the cpanel-skel within my home directory should copy all files to new domain; all it copies is index.html Anyone know how to copy folders and sub folders from A to B via perl command?

In an ideal world, I would like the subdomain above to work with a FOLDER within the main domain, and for the subdomain to access the CGI-BIN in main domain (one set of scripts to update rather than in each cgi-bin within each subdomain!)

home/
---/digi/
---/xyz/
------/abc/
---/cgi-bin/
etc

My host WAS able to achieve this by using a symlink within the sub-domain folder ... but the subdomain has to be set up manually each time via Cpanel. I want to automate the process as far as poss.

Anyone got any ideas? (Ignore the ---. Only way to indent lines)
