I am doing a little research on an old project..

I would occasionally find a strange file in my root directory.. something like KAXQ or something weird, simialar to if you try to load a Visual basic file into notepad... all you see are a few characters but you know the file is much bigger.

The company told me that when the server crashes, it leaves "those" types of files...

This was about 4 years ago... and I'm not sure if I can dig up the file(s) from the old computer I used to investigate...

But does the above scenario makes sense or just b.s. from the company...

Thanks group.

virus slapper?
AFAIR 1.3.23 and below were vulnerable to attack through 443 (SSL) port. Even today, there are some 443 port probes...
