This new, free analytics to amazon vendors which would normally sell for $30,000 per annum.

The dashboard, called Amazon Brand Analytics, is available to third-party marketplace sellers who are Brand Registered. As of the time of writing, the feature has not been introduced to all Seller Central accounts.

The analytics platform allows users to:

Look up keywords search by Amazon customers
See how popular a given keyword is, relative to others
See what the #1, #2, and #3 “most clicked” ASINs (Amazon product identifier) are for a given search term

Percentage of clicks that the “most clicked” ASINs received for the given search term

What will the top customers think of Amazon by giving the service for which they used to pay upto $73000 to stay ahead of the competition now away to the competition for free? I think disappointment is an understatement.

But it could also be there were not enough paying customers to keep this product profitable and that Amazon determined that giving the service away to all customers would add more to their bottom-line through increased sales on their marketplace than earnings through selling the service itself.

This news, and the linked, quoted article, is a year old.

It is Amazon making a free teaser entry product from its enterprise version. And it still requires one to own or legally represent the brand of the data ‘shared’. This is not a wide open service by any means.

Many folks think of Amazon as eCom only; it is also, increasingly, an ad network. And the free analytics is also designed to emphasise the value of brand associated keyword advertising.

In short it’s a marketing exercise.
