My traffic has gone up - doubled on some days, yet the results on alexa are sort of random. It seems that it used to be a lot more accurate (relatively) - in that if my traffic went up, so did my alexa ranking, and if it went down, so did the alexa ranking.
It seems like their sample size is too small for sites that are not in the top 30,000 or so? Anyone else noticing this?
However, I do know that for the sites which I do have intimate knowledge of (that I can share publically) the Alexa ranking is very, very slow to budge & reflect the actual traffic numbers. Or notice the large amount of backlinks, etc.
Take any measurement like this - with a large grain of salt, from what I've read here, it seems that the larger sites - tend to be more accurate, the lower down, the less accurate Alexa tends to be.
Where the exact fall off is, though - I have no idea.
Perhaps Alexa say that a site is ‘Popular’ when you don’t have to search through their data to find it!
