Hello masters,

Since I have relatively rich human resources, I am thinking maybe to build a couple directories.
So my questions is, what is the best directory to start working on?

1. from popularity point of view, what directory categories have been explored very much already and users will not need any more new such directory

2. from economical point of view, what directory is more lean toword info resource and what is more lean toward hot topic envied by business oriented people?

3. from easy start point of view, what directory is easy to start?

Regards,

Hi Steve,

I'm afraid you post isn't clear. Are you looking for software to build a directory?

Sounds fun - and sounds like you are familiar with the issues to consider when embarking on such a project.

My .02 cents would be -> nobody will tell you 'which niche to build' since, if it made lots of economical sense, why would somebody give away a great business model? :)

It's "easy" or "hard" depending on how you start to 'seed' the directory.

Use available resources, etc - find sites you like, compile in an easy to use format, and accept user submissions. To get it started, don't charge for listing - perhaps flip that switch down the road.

Try using 'gossamer threads' or similar for the backend, and if that doesn't suit, check out a script archive like Hotscripts.com or Freshmeat.net or Sourceforge for some software to run the thing.

And, good luck with the project - it does sound fun.
