MyWay Adds Several Search Engines to Portal

MyWay.Com [wwWebmasterWorlday.com], a web portal (free email, directory, news, etc) that launched in October (no ads, pop-ups) has added several search engines to its list of resources. MyWay.Com users now have the option to change the default engine from Google (it's still available) to AltaVista, Ask Jeeves, AlltheWeb, or Looksmart. Additionally, you can quickly check results from these engines using tabs at the top of every search results page. Another new feature is the option to access several of each engines "specialty catalogs". Here's what's available:

* Google (Web, Images, Directory)
* AltaVista (Images, Video, Audio)
* AlltheWeb (News, Images, Video, MP3 Files, FTP files)

Final Notes: The Google cache is available via MyWay. Advanced syntax for each engine will work.

Has anybody received referrals from MyWay - either through Google search results or AdWords? Any idea about its popularity and the volume of searches?

Have yet to receieve click #1 from them. Imho, a lot of hype -> will take a LOT to get a user base enough that anybody gets traffic from them 'in volume'...

>referrals

Yeah, one of my sites had been picking up dribbles of traffic from them. But lately (last week or so), the referrals are coming in from mysearch.com quite nicely. Checking whois, the admin address is the same.

13 so far today on this one site, will likely be 25 or so for the entire day. (Uniques for the day will be 5500)

rcjordan,

had a quick look at mysearch and was wondering if you knew this simple question.

Concerning the directory (dmoz) the little graphs on the left, is that the pr of individual sites.(am sure, but not 100%)
That would be good for checking pr for people without access to the toolbar.( Mac people)

Yep, they are showing the PR meter, just like in the Google directory...so, now you have 2 options when wanting to get the PR of DMOZ sites without the toolbar - the Google directory, and the Myway copy.

It says at the top of the listings of the directory, "viewing in PageRank order..." off to the side, in small letters.

No problem, I was quite surprised to see the PR meters there on myway...but then, I've only looked at it 2 times since it launched.

Why go elsewhere when you've got the real Google at home? :)

It's not a bad portal at all. How long it will survive without banners and pop-ups remains to be seen.

They claimed in their 1st press release that they were profitable from day #1. That's pretty amazing, imho.

Course, whether that 'profitability' will scale with more users...remains to be seen.

Soon as they try banners and or pop ups, though -> they cease to have a USP.
