I noticed today that Hotbot has a new skin.
You can choose the search engine for your search from Fast, Google, Inktomi and Teoma: the default search is Inktomi.

It doesn't exist any more the old "directhit" search ( the 10 most popular results).

Hi Angiolo,
Now that's interesting. I like the way you simply click on the SE radio button for the next results.

This is handy for checking your rankings. It is nice to have an outlet for direct Ink searches. Getting rid of the Direct Hit results is a vast improvment. The public might like this.

I normally have two browser windows sitting next to each other on my 21" screen, both in portrait format. Since hotbot now forces the layout to a fixed width, that means that the start of the search box is off-screen for me (as it is for people with small screens). Pretty much the most stupid design mistake you can make as a search engine.

I have to concur with Engine,

The radio link switching between SERPs, on the four major crawlers on the web is an excellant resource, and i can see it being a very handy tool. Furthermore, is the dates listed by url at the bottom of each serp listing showing the last update of that page, dependant on which SE. You can really see Google's Fresh winning hands down.

I don't know what it looks like for most of you ... but on a Mac it is not very attractive! And what's with the all the junk at the top of the page with the banners for virus alert? That stuff gives me a headache! What next ... bash the monkey? Thumbs down on the design. :(

I like the results though! My site does pretty well with Ink but never did much in their old SERPS. Who knows, maybe after years of nothing at all from HotBot ... I might grow to like it afterall! :)

Not on my PFI sites (which aren't all Freshed).

Seriously though, I like this a lot. This will be my default search from now on - and I'm going to advise as many people as possible to use it.

Agreed Liane,

The design is yuck, i'm currently looking at the web on a MS2K box via opera, and it did not look pretty.

I like the concept - just a pity about the design, make that neat and tidy and you really do have something that would compete at the top level.

If you are accessing from a UK ISP, these nice people do not want you to get the benefit of their new layout. There is an automatic re-direct to
[hotbot.lycos.co.uk...]
whenever you attempt to get
[hotbot.com...]

Pesumably Lycos UK need the money!
