Does anyone know how to turn off the quick search engine from your address bar in IE6? It is just an Overture/Ink/ODP Search engine. I really don't like it. It is run by new.net. If I type in mydomain.com without the www it launches. It doesn't give me a close result but irrelavent serps.

Try:

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Do Not Search From the Address Bar

Did you download the new.net browser plug in? Some of these programs replace the search finction in the process.

Not sure about IE6 (I'm still IE5) but you should be able to turn off the search functions vis the internet options.

Tools > Internet Options
goto Advanced Tab > "Search from Address Bar"

That doesn't work. Even after a reboot it still does it. I am clueless to what the thing has infected my browser with.

No I don't have there plugin either.

I checked out a referal from their engine about a week ago and now I have this problem. I never said yes to any prompt or clicked anything on their site.

Try:

Search >> Customize >> Use Search Assistance >> Auto Search Settings >> Google Sites

This will force address bar searches to default to the Google search engine.
