documents at bottom of search engine

On lookseek.com search engine, when you do a search, at the bottom of the url it says documents. When you use it, it gives you individual pages. This makes searching an url easy . Why don't other search engines offer this. Am I missing something. Just a question, from somebody somewhat new to the internet.

I wouldnt waste your time Miss Sheila. You can find many better search engines here. Lookseek seems to be a scam. The main search results seem out of date and have poor relevance. The next listings are the ODP directory. Then there are affiliate links at the right. Then there are news headlines from another affiliate. Then there is a "forum" with 5 posts and descriptions copied word for word from a well known Search Engine Forum.

As Ian pointed out the feature you point out is standard on many far better engines.

I wouldnt trust these guys at all.

I was looking through the forum and to my surprise found this, I am the webmaster form Lookseek.com
and have to give a rebuttal to chiyo.
Chiyo words ( seems to be a scam. ) just who are we scamming?
As for the search results they are updated daily how can they be out of date ?
As for the listing they are ODP that is no secret so are most of the other search engines like Google.
As for the affiliate links they are on all other search engines some do a better job of hiding the fact even aol key words
are affiliate links. Most businesses that I know of need to generate money for things like electric, insurance, rent need I
go on.
The forum is only a few days old and I have not had time to promote it, things like a forum take time to catch on and
build a user base.
As for trust we don't gather any personal information or ask for any money we provide a place for people to find
information like any other search engine where does trust come into this??

It looks like a genuine Search Engine to me.

They have Kanoodle paid listings but only at the bottom of the page, main search results do not appear to be ODP only, just the directory results.

They have their own add URL which is not the standard ODP Add URL, which most of the ODP clones use.

Lookseek, can you tell us a bit about the technology that you are using. Are you spidering submitted sites? (I hope sincerely that you are not submitting the sites to ODP)

All of us here have a lot of experience of SEs and directories and have seen a lot of 2nd rate ODP clones. I think chiyo immediately put you into that category maybe without having a closer look.

Whoah! A search engine where meta tag keyword stuffing still works! And it even appears in the displayed descriptions!

Sorry if it sounds harsh, lookseek, but this is a truly remarkable sight nowadays, where all the majors have more or less learned to seperate the wheat from the chaff. You seem to have a lot of work ahead of you until your search results can be considered useful and relevant to the entered terms.

The ODP section on the main page features some amusingly misdirected links to the Science and Society branches. You are also in violation of the ODP license, because you only paraphrase the required attribution code on your directory pages, and don't include it in full. This probably means you will eventually receive a C&D from the AOL legal department. They don't take such violations lightly.

So far, I can't see this as a first rate search site. Anyway, whatever you make it to be in the future, good luck with it!

The addurl is our own not ODP, only sites that make it through a editor "good sites with relative content and no popup windows" are spiderd.

What is wrong with meta info ? we don't want to be like the others what is the fun of that. If we catch a site spamming the meta info they get banned. Meta info can be a useful tool is people use them properly but as we all know their are some that abuse them. Their is no way of completely eliminating spamming weather it be meta info or hiding info in the body of a site only a human is capable of editing them out.
As for the ODP attribution code, one of our programmers thought is was a good idea to edit it without asking me. The links got broke when we moved our server room to a new bigger room and switched to the new server group oops.

Yes i did have a closer look. Your forum descriptions are copied word from word from the second biggest search engine forum discussion board. As pointed out you are in violation of the ODP agreement. I cannot trust a site which copies other's content. Your SERPs still look off the mark. Maybe becuase you are using PPC listings and not declaring them as sponsored or PPC?

Maybe i was a bit harsh and it seems that others here like it and i do listen to them! Clean up the copying and Im sure many would be happier but it really does look like affiliate city at the moment. What I dont quite get is that the site does not seem to have anything unqiue or do things better than anything else, apart from a portal like appeal of putting general news, and general search and a forum all in the one place, and asking us to use it as a start page. I wish you all the best and suggest you develop something that is unique or new, or does one thing better than other offerings to really get attention.

Hmm...I think if Lookseek does a little more research on the how's and why's of running things, another engine is a good thing.

However, given that I haven't had the time to look into things myself, judging from the remarks in this thread, I'm not really missing much.

Lookseek - one question for you. What's your value proposition? Why would somebody pick you over say Google, Allthweb, etc?

If you care to give a good answer to that one, I'll probably check out your stuff...otherwise, good luck with your project.

It take time to build a database, think about it, a single database that is bigger than most home computer hard drives that
can be searched in under a second 'depending on server load' it is a little more complicated than most think.
As for what makes us different ? at the moment not much, but I have some things in the works, check the site in about 2
weeks.

It took even Google many years to develop a SE, why should we expect perfection right out of the box for you? :)

It will be interesting to see the SERPS when the database has more URLs.
