I don't know for Ask, but I don't think that the others are having their own index.

I think that DuckDuckGo and Qwant should get better exposure. They deserve to be better known by the public.

>DuckDuckGo

They're a meta search engine using Bing and Yandex IIRC, although they crawl they don't seem to do anything with it.

Qwant

From what I was told the other day, Qwant is using Bing's index

There are so many robots/crawlers , and so few real search engines, you might wonder what they are doing with the data collected ...

>Qwant

Qwant has it's own crawler and is building it's own index. Bing is backfill. Qwant, being French owned is probably making French sites a priority to index. It's really a hybrid engine like Duckduckgo.

Not the case ..Qwant has a far larger number of English language sites indexed that it does French language sites.
I usually make a separate site per each "niche" for English language ( usually with .com, and another for French language using .fr ) ..Qwant always crawls and indexes the English language sites before the French language ones..
Qwant is based in France, but is an international search Engine..
Some results are ( for now ) "backfill" from Bing,

DDG is using Bing..but not Yandex..I have a site that both Yandex and Google are allowed to crawl, and they have done so ( every page ) since it launched a year or more ago, but neither Google or Yandex will show it in their SERPs for anything, not even for it's own name .. they will both only show sites that link to it..DDG , Qwant, Bing show it without any problem...and rank it very well always #1 fro all the terms that were targeted.

DDG use Bing Yahoo and Yandex. See link:
[duck.co...]
We also of course have more traditional links in the search results, which we source from Bing, Yahoo, and Yandex.

DDG use Bing Yahoo and Yandex

Maybe which search engine results they use to make the SERP in reply to a search depends on the country of the searcher ?
From France ( when a search is made in French or in English ) DDG results match Bing..But not at all Yandex..

I think that's right. At some point in the past the Bing API/search broke and that left DDG in an awkward position.

When I do a site search (searching within a domain) on DDG I sometimes see: Results enhanced by Yandex. near the bottom of the serp.
