Farewell Excite - hate to lose old friends.
It seems that Excite is another se going back to its roots. Strange how long the whole portal craze appeared to last...
Please note that @Home, the former owner of excite.com, is providing your email service through December 31. The new Excite will begin migrating your email to a new and reliable system beginning on Thursday, December 20, and you will be on this new and reliable system by year-end at the latest. Thanks for working with us through this transition.
That page is now linked from the default banner on Excite.
How's this fit together? That is on a domain owned by Iwon.
I think they actually mean that they are going to go 'portal shmortal' and continue to de-emphasize the search aspects.
What is TOTALLY out of order is the deceit, pretending that the results are based on relevance and are not simply adverts. I for one would never do business with cowboys like that.
As for their objective: "Restore Excite to its former glory"... laughable flannel.
Her, and anyone else whose work involved the chat server, will be out of a job on Dec 31st. The senior chat tech Tom Lang decided to start up his own chat server at halsoft.com because the inside word is that iWon will not run Ubique's Virtual Places platform.
Excite returning to its previous glory? I seriously doubt it, and believe it will be nothing more than an ad-spamming Iwon clone.
>in Germany are only a few relevant SEs left
What's left in the U.S. that actually includes sites, updates and sends more than a sprinkling of traffic? I've had high hopes for FAST, but from where I sit all there is is MSN, AOL and Google. Which translates into Ink and Google, and Ink takes paying.
