DDG announced a strengthening of its partnership with Yahoo.

In addition to the existing technology we've been using, DuckDuckGo now has access to features you've been requesting for years:
• Date filters let you filter results from the last day, week and month.
• Site links help you quickly get to subsections of sites. New Features from a Stronger Yahoo Partnership [duck.co]

Here's the technical implementation document

I used them for a while several years ago and IMO they have too many "features" -- a little too clever for their own good.

Just give me some straight up results, StartPage has been my default search engine for a while (also they're real big on privacy which is good).

So what does that mean for privacy at DuckDuckGo, which has been a major selling factor for them? They say their ads are not tailored to users to protect their privacy but the ads have shown local content to me in the past via startpage. Certainly now being a partner of Yahoo will lead to more such privacy erosion? I understand they need to grow but this would seem to be against their stated privacy policy would it not?

It may be splitting hairs, but you could distinguish between information gleaned from cookies-- including third-party cookies-- and information gleaned from the user's IP.

Do a search, then scroll to the bottom of the search results.

Well from an Android mobile phone there is nothing at the bottom but several active links to related searches. This from San Diego

No. I see it in Japan too.

• Date filters let you filter results from the last day, week and month.

I was happy to see that, but I missed the news about this Yahoo tie-up. Why couldn't they do this before Yahoo was involved?

The one month isn't enough for me. On a lot of topics I just need to see results from at least the past year. I often find myself using the !g in my DDG searches just to get that.

StartPage looks like the last, best alternative that has the option to limit results to a year, and handle privacy. I've had DDG as my default for years now. It may be time to look at StartPage again.

Right I have just tested with:

Chrome
Edge
Firefox
K-Meleon
MSIE
Netscape
Opera
SeaMonkey
Vivaldi

My Android tablet browser on mobile
My Lumia phone browser on mobile

All say the same: Powered by Bing™

Why are all you seeing DDG and I am not?

Cache and history on all browsers clear.
