I launched a new site and I thought I'd share my experiences with the search engines from a fresher's perspective (though I've launched tens of them till date).
1. While developing the site I put noindex tag so that the site doesn't show up in SEs.
2. Later 2 days after I removed the noindex tag, the site's homepage got indexed by Google. But other SEs like Bing & Yahoo still had no clue.
3. Now after about almost a week all site's pages are indexed by Google and none by Bing or Yahoo.
4. Searching Google gives relevant results. Others search engines break the sitename.com into site<space>name and try to show poor matches.
*I must mention that I didn't put the site in webmasters tool or submit it any other place.
I surmise the real reason why people love certain search engines is because the search engines love them back. All a new webmaster wants is to see his site's presence felt... that some SE cares and notices the site. And here the game seems to be first come first served. If Google gets to the site first and shows the results then Google is what the webmaster continues to use; and simply because it works for them.
I thought others could learn something from this fact and fix up their crawling crawlers. What's your experience?
