NL and DH - stubborn companies

Getting In - what's the problem

The thorn's in my side.

Tried getting in both of these SE's for the last 4 months - nope notya buggery.

So emailed NL, got a reply apologising, and a 9 request crawl of the site, no listing and that was at the start of June. Don't know what is going to happen there ?

DH, tried emailing several times, no reply. Tried calling their office (askjeeves - how may i help you), directed through to the correct place. answering machine - left message no reply. I'm in the UK, thats expensive.

I am half confident NL will come round eventually, however DH, don't know, aint got a clue whats happeing there, as i have many #1 positions on most targetted keyphrases on their partners. If I could get into DH, the benefits, would be immediately apparent, their 10 most popular, i think the site would be at the top for most related kw searches.

Where are they ?

Patience on both of these.

NL will deep crawl your site, just wait.

You might see a DH spider come around occasionally, but for a new site, be prepared to wait a long time before you get into the top ten there. You won't get there until you've amassed a bunch of clicks from Lycos, Hotbot, and who knows what other SE.

If your site is as popular as you say it is, then the clicks will be counted by DH, and it will come around when it wants to. It's still going to take a long time to climb the ladder of seniority that the other sites command. In the meantime I wouldn't tear my hair out waiting... ;)

Yeah I wouldn't waste another brain cell on them...ain't worth it.

DH is slow to get into and delicate to maintain.
NL i found very easy to get into and my logs show them to be one of the most regular and well paced crawlers.

But - as has been pointed out do not expect a lot of traffic from them......

I've noticed Direct Hit listings appearing at roughly the same time as Inktomi listings. My Inktomi submission is slow and conservative, but seems to work...

- wait for an ODP listing; submit ODP listing and wait abt 3 wks, then submit domain to Inktomi, and wait about two months. If I get any more links in the meantime, I submit the linking pages (but only if I know these domains are already listed in Inktomi).

I haven't kept a close watch on Gulliver's schedule but we're going through a deep crawl on two sites at the moment - last crawls on our records are 3 July, 10 and 26 June.

Anybody know what it takes to move up into the top 10 in DH. Close to 2 years after launch of the site, it finally ened up around 6 or 7 on a few SERP pages. Most positions in other engines have been regularly in the top 20 results since about 6 months after launch. It's nice to finally gain a good placement on DH, just not realy sure what got it there. Do they just count clicks in DH or are they tracked from Lycos results or only when someone clicks on the "top ten pages for this search" and then when a site gets enough clicks it moves up?
